Yardarm attachement on USS Arizona 1/350 scale
Posted by Tankbuster on Saturday, September 11, 2004 3:03 PM
Howdy all,

I am currently working on the Arizona in 350 scale. I am having trouble in getting the yardarms to stay in place on the forward fighting top. I have used super glue, white glue and testor's tube glue (red tube). I have tried attaching them directly to the fighting top with no success. after fighting it for a couple of hour and almost trashing it, I gave up.

I then thought about securing them to a peice of sheet plastic. THe parts are inplace but they still fall off when lightly touched or bumped.

Does anyone out there have a better and sure fire way of keeping these parts in place. If they are this touchy now, I guess attaching any kind of ship rigging will be out of the question. The parts I am talking about are from the GMM Arizona set.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!

I used the GMM set on my Arizona also. I used super glue to secure the yardarms, then carefully gave them a dab of accelerator from a micro-brush to lock them in place. Worked just fine for me.

When I attached the yards to my 1945 Pennsylvania (scratch) I used GMM brass, and found them very fragile.

I took a piece of plastic stock about 1/8th inch in length, sanded it into a triangular shape, and fit it inside of the brass yard. I then glued that to the underside of the fighting top. It's held up quite well, even with tensioned rigging.

Thanks for your response and tips. I'll give them a go and see what happens.

I did the same thing that Jeff Herne did. With the triangular pieces, then glued it to the fighting top. I used superglue with a bit of accelerator for good measure. I never had a problem with them coming loose. good luck.
