What Are Paper Models?

It's fun to model in paper. No painting, just assembly. Be forwarned, though. German produced kits are the only ones worth your time, IMHO. Stay away from Polish produced kits. The lack of undersandable directions in companies such as JSC and others are utterly frustrating! The German ships are works of art, and fun to build. Also, start with simple kits. Most companies rate their kits for difficulty. Picking a difficult one as a first kit would be a grave mistake. I'd suggest look at what Wilhelmshavener Models has to offer- Regards, Craig

The beauty of paper models (especially those on CDs) is that if you mess up a part, you simply print another one.

Modeling in paper can be fun, the models can be very impressive too, however you can not expect the same accuracy of decently produced plastic or resin kit.
Here is a picture of a paper model my wife made ; it's M41 Pulse Rifle (from the movie Alien) at scale 1/1, completely made of paper (46 sheets of A4)
BTW this is one of the many free models that can be found on the internet.

Since I got a new computer since I linked to it and lost the kink, maybe some else here has the link, but there is a Bismark, around 1/300 scale I think, that is a paper model that you would swear was made out of plastic or metal. Paper is just another medium that has no boundaries for scale and accuracy. It all depends on the modeler. Check the Group Build here inteh ships forum. Theres a gent there that built some pretty nice paper models as well.
