CMK rumor; U-boat interior 1/72
Posted by knoxb on Thursday, September 16, 2004 12:42 PM
Hello,
I heard a rumor at my LHS that CMK was working on interior details for Revell's 1/72 U-boat VII. Conning Tower, engine room, and torpedo room. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks

I have confirmed information direct from CMK that they are working on 3 sections - engine room, commander section and torpedo room.
Look at this link http://kits.kitreview.com/mpmpreviewbg_1.htm there are test moulds.

I've been working on scratchbuilding an entire interior for Revell's 1/125 U-47 for over a year and now there's going to be an aftermarket kit? ARGH!

I have seen pictures of the command section ad torpedo room. Figured someone will release an engine room and after that we'll probably see the rest of the interior. Then someone will have to release a clear hull to see it. With all the aftermarket soon to be availalbe, why bother to buy the kit, you'r gona replace the whole thing anyway with the modelbrass set, new conning tower from Nautilas, WEM brass set, replacement decals. About the only thing you can't replace yet is the hull, and you know that's coming

If you follow the link posted by imodeller, above, it'll take you to a little flyer or something advertising CMK's aftermarket products for Revell's U-boat. It looks to me, though, that the interior sections are out of scale -- a little large. I've got many schematics of the Type VII for my interior scratchbuild, and I'm pretty sure. The Command section in particular looks too big.

I wish I had ummeli's problem. I just finished (abour 6 months ago) building a modified Revell Growler. I built her as a Tench Class, Guppy II, with interior detail.
If somebody would put out a 1/72 scale Fleet Guppy, he'd have bidding rights on my soul, and first born. I'd prefer a North Atlantic sail, but would accept either an EB or a Portsmouth step sail.
And, not to put too fine a point on it, I'd settle for 1:150 or larger straight Guppy, any sail. But a 1:72 with interior detail would be my dream.
