Kit Length????

Hey all.
I'm kinda new to the ship thing, and I recently saw the Dragon release of the 'Bismarck'.

Im curious as to what the actual length of the completed kit would be.

Also, whats the best place for aftermarket ship detail parts, assortment wise?

I just picked one up last week at the Kalamazoo contest for $15.00. which I thought was real good buy.It measures around 14" long.I'm not crazy about the rubber parts but oh well.Other than that its a nice kit.

Thats pretty small, or is that normal?

Being an A/C builder, I have little/no idea about the model ship world, but am kinda keen to find out.

im A/c and cars too, but having built a 1/700 warship before, id say that 14" is pretty good size. after all, it was only the largest and scariest ship in the world until it got sunk. by a british naval task force specifically sent to destroy the largest and scariest battleship on the seas at the time.........

I entered a WWI plane is all. If you saw the Greek Warship over on the display only table that was mine. I'm the vendor rep. for the Ka-zoo show don't usally enter a ship in that show. I'm usally in Bay city every year and Livonia.

hey I got an uncle in Livonia but of course I live in the UP of Michigan about 30 to 40 minutes from St. Ignance. I also do Aircraft Armour Sci Fi and ships havent built the !/700th scale Bismark but built the 1/800 scale Tirpiz and I also have 2 1/350 scale US Battleships and the 1/350 scale Tirpiz.

On the workbench: Dragon 1/350 scale Ticonderoga class USS BunkerHill 1/720 scale Italeri USS Harry S. Truman 1/72 scale Encore Yak-6

For aftermarket ship parts, a good place to start is the Steel Navy website: <www.steelnavy.com>. Virtually every manufacturer of kits and aftermarket parts has a link there; just click on the firm's icon on the home page. Ones that are especially worth looking at are Tom's Modelworks, Gold Medal Models, and White Ensign Models. I've used the Gold Medal WWII German navy set; it's great.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

The Bismark does come with some P/E in the kit.But the sites jtilley suggested are terrific.

If you haven't bought the 700 scale yet, you need to check out the Tamiya 350 scale. It's just short of three feet long and with a decent PE set turns into a masterpiece. Recomend the Gold medal Models set with this one. Check on ebay to buy this kit, you can probably pick one up for near $40
