                        I would like to build this destroyer escort for my dad as a surprise gift for his office. He served on this ship in the late 50's early 60's. While I don't think anyone makes this specific kit, can someone point me in a direction for a similar class of ship that I can modify if necessary?

                        The Putnam was a Sumner class destroyer. You will find reference material at www.navsource.org , at www.pacificfront.com I found a couple kits listed in 1/700 scale. If you want larger I don't know, maybe scratchbuilding. You will find plans for that class at www.floatingdrydock.com . It just takes some digging. Good Luck Tim H.
