::shrug:: I was in the hospital corps, and when deployed we, and the medical officers knew what ships were what, what helicopters were what... and most important... which were soviet made.... whether in the hands of the soviets or Uncle Sadaam a few yrs later...

can't speak for JAG tho... never trusted lawyers too much anyway... Wink [;)]

Butchy...what I'm referring to is "MOS 101" (Military Occupational Specialty)...it would be akin to a Marine holding an M16A2 and calling it an M9. I wasn't referring to technical/classified specs.

Don't surprise me at all. There are many in the Service that are in positions that would not allow them to aquire the info about equipment etc that others have.
The medical Corp and JAG are prime examples of this.

The main reason I fumed over the whole thing, was these Commanders were working for PAO and are not military journalists by trade. They were chosen because they are supposed to be experts in their respective fields (as mentioned earlier, one is a Aviation Maintenance Officer and the other is a Surface Warfare Officer).

As for "security concerns"...one can go to the Navy's website and download all the information or go to Jane's.

It still boggles my mind on how they can screw up that much.

I'm chuckling at this one, you'd think they'd at least get the ships right. And most of the planes that have NAVY written on the sides. I wouldn't think that's asking too much.
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.

tom's got it right, many personell are under the navy's employ and wear the unifrom but they arent soldiers. im not saying that all non combat personell are any less vital, but its just the way things work.

I was mad enough that I called the COMNAVAIRPAC Quarterdeck to complain.

the thing about those PAO's is they are basically reporters... and like some of their civvy counterparts they sometimes only report half the story and the rest of the time just plain fudge their way through it... (not all reporters, but some glowing examples come to mind)
