How much would anyone pay for it? Considering the fact, its a 2nd hand kit.. Smile [:)]

$75 to $90 bucks is fair, if everything is there and there's no PE included...if there's a PE set, then $120 is about right.

If it is the 1994 release I don't think it had PE, original retail price is about $162.

Not sure if it is really a collectors item as Tamiya re-issues the Kit every few years or so.

I just picked one up on EBay for 110, including shipping. It was evidently an overstock, and does not include any PE parts.

I may have not gotten THAT great of a deal, but I've been wanting one for about 20 years, so when I saw that my LHS wanted 190 for it (!), I figured I was getting a good deal.

It's the version with OUT the honeycomb, which is the way it was when I was aboard.

I'm looking into getting some of the PE parts for it, and wondering how I'm going to try to work out some hangar deck details. It's been so long, I don't even remember what the hangar (or ANY!) deck looked like... Any idea where I can get some sort of a "blueprint"? Does anyone build a hangar deck detail kit for it? And that steelnavy model is unbelievable! I'll have to take a peek at the parts and the kit to see what's what (still haven't received it, was supposed to be here today but FedEx... Well, nevermind). But those details, especially just the weathering/wearing of the flight deck - jeeze! I'll try, but I can pretty much guarantee it won't be anywhere NEAR that good - especially since my airbrushing skills are still lacking (but I'm practicing! On kits!).

Anyway, any insight anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated...

And, oh, I have a Revell (YUK!) AG 1/96th Saturn V (4805, I believe) that I'll be tweaking, as well. I already know about realspacemodels.com, and apollosaturn.com for details and additions, but I'm also keeping my ear to the wall with regards to fixes/tweaks for that, as well.

Thanks, all!

Let me offer you a great website dedicated to ship models

www.modelwarships.com

there are many there, myself included that have built the Enterprise. Mine is still under construction, and I started it back in 2003. So have fun

http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery/cv/cvn-65/350-rr/rr-index.html

Here are some pictures of my build up, keep in mind its only the third ship Ive ever built (when these pictures were taken)

The point is have fun its a great kit and slam full of possibilities for personalization, it seems no two people have built the kit the same

Big Jim,

First, that's one of my all time favorite comedy sketches. Kudos! I'll bet not that many other people get it...

Second, yeah, I got "ripped", but it's OK. I was OK with it then and I'm OK with it now. Seeing that I've wanted one forever, it's something I can easliy ignore.

I'm wondering, though, what materials (photos, plans, etc.) are available that really show the hangar deck. I'll be putting SOME work into that, or maybe not: nothing says this will be the last time I ever build this kit (heard about a Trumpeter coming out, but I can't find any verification of it. Anyone?). I do have the book from my WESTPAC, so I'll have to blow the dust off of that thing and take a gander. Lots of great looking completed builds out there; I have plenty of reference there, too!

richter111, your kit looks nice, too. Not something I would be embarassed about, by any means. Did you use any of the GMM/other PE stuff on it? Any thoughts on the available PE for it (IIRC there are 2 kits available from GMM, one includes the island details/netting/etc, and the other is for the elevators. They also appear to have a decal set. Anything else I should know about?)? How about the aircraft kits - doesn't the kit come with some?

Thanks all for the feedback.

I used the gold metal models set and some dunagain decals. There is alot of scratch building, but as my talents have improved, I find my self wanting to rip out the bad and replace it with better. Its my third ship so hopefully I will continue to grow in ability.

By the way there is no photo etch with the kit, you have to buy it seperately

Best bet for reference photo's is Squadron's "Detail in Scale USS Enterprise"
All plans for the interior of the ship are Classified Material (my son also served on her, the plans he had access to were so marked.) and it is hard to get any photo's for the interior. Someone tried not to long ago on a similar thread. Your Cruise book could be useful.
You could also do a goggle search and see what you could find..

That's what's holding me up. Enterprise hangar deck blueprints are apparent as rare as hens teeth.

The details and scale book is the best I know of

all I remember is that the Hangar decks on any US Navy Supercarrier is divided by huge blast doors that close in case of fire or enemy attack.

On the workbench: Dragon 1/350 scale Ticonderoga class USS BunkerHill 1/720 scale Italeri USS Harry S. Truman 1/72 scale Encore Yak-6

The 71st Tactical Fighter Squadron the only Squadron to get an Air to Air kill and an Air to Ground kill in the same week with only a F-15 http://photobucket.com/albums/v332/Mikeym_us/
