Jess,
very nice U-Boat!
and for a first model . . . ?
just ridiculous!
i guess the art training is an advantage when it comes to painting and weathering .

Thanks tho9900!

Emma used to prefer the index-finger-hooked-over-nose too. Now it's whatever. As long as the thumb is in the mouth.

First... you have a beautiful daughter... she actually reminds me of my niece (her name is Emma as well) .. especially the thumb sucking picture, but I believe my niece prefers the index finger hooked over the nose technique...

You U boat is fabulous!!! a very good job of weathering... some pics if you let your mind slip away almost look like a birds eye view of the sail etc...

Thanks for sharing!

No, really it is my first model.

With the little time I had to work on it, I did a lot of investigating and reading on both modeling and u-boats. I would religiously look at 5 different forums and retain anything that would help me.

Thank you so much for the compliments.

You're first model?

I think not.

Maybe you're first ship model, or first U-Boat. But that work beats the bejesus of anything I'd done within the first 20 years (or more) of modeling. Great Job.

Jess,
Beautiful artwork. Nice U-Boat too. I'm getting prepared to start on the same kit. How many years did it take to open all those flood holes! Did you back them up with anything to prevent "see thru"?

Hey, Jess, nice job on the U-boat! I have that kit myself (with the Nautilus wood deck) and it's slowly working it's way to the top of my pile. Great artwork on your site and a beautiful 1:1 scale daughter!

Hi Guys,

Please check out my first model. It's the Revell 1/72 U-boat. I used Houshinya's periscopes and barrels. The rigging is metal wire, which was a real pain. I also opened up all the flood holes minus the deck. I didn't pick any particular u-boat, so I guess you could say it's a generalization.

I've already started another and will use WEM and Modelbrass' photoetches. If and when Houshinya begins making the pericopes and barrels again, I will definitely use them.

I'm a fine art painter. My wife and I had our first baby, so I have taken a year off from painting. Whatever little time I have, I work on the model. You can check out some of my paintings too if you like as well as my new. beautiful daughter, Emma.

Thanks and enjoy.

Jess
