There are quite a few good reference works on the New Jersey and her sisters. I can't claim to have looked at all - or even most - of them, but one I can recommend is Robert Sumrall's Iowa-Class Battleships. It contains lots of photos, some excellent drawings, and enough specific information to pin down most details of radar fits, armament changes, color schemes, etc. to build a nice model.
Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.
