The color of lifeboats, carley floats, or life rings would correspond to the background color...in other words, if the ship is painted haze gray, then the lifeboats and carley floats were Haze Gray.

In the case of a dazzle scheme, if the demarcation line between two colors fell onto a fitting, then the line was carried over the fitting...here's a photo of USS Cushing, DD-797, in a Ms 32/16d pattern...the demarcation line between the Black and Ocean Gray falls onto the starboard boat davit, notice the top is black, the bottom is gray...if the line fell onto the launch, then the launch would be two colors...

Hope this helps.

WWII Life Boat Colors Needed

My research material does not get down deep enough to describe what color(s)the lifeboats and life preservers used on WWII ships were. Does anyone have info or a link to describe what colors were used for the various lifeboats and life preservers mounted on the outside of the ships during WWII? Am specifically looking for support craft, supply ships, battleships, and destroyers.

Thanks in advance.
