NEW 1/350 WARSHIP SUBJECTS?
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, May 9, 2003 11:11 AM
what i really would like to know from all modelers is:

Which battleships, aircraft carriers, or cruisers you would like
to see produced ?? ( 1/350, in plastic)

I would like to have all of them, ok, its just a dream.

I vote for the italian battleship Vittorio Veneto and Roma or
the japanese battleships Nagato and Mutsu.
They would be great for the Tamiya 1:350 Battleships collection.

And you?

Ideally ALL OF THEM. Realistically one of each major class. Especially the WW2 classes. But a Leahy class CG would be nice.

Here's my list...

Royal Navy - HMS Hood, Illustrious, Warspite, Repulse, Tribal, O Class

German Navy - Prinz Eugen, Scharnhorst/Gneisenau, Graf Spee

USN - Indianapolis, Gearing/Sumner, Cleveland, Baltimore, SoDak, N. Carolina, Atlanta, ALASKA

IJN - Takao, Shinanao( even a Yamato conversion), Taiho, Nagato/Mutsu
Kirishima

Regia Marina - Vittorio Venetto, Andrea Doria/Ciao Dulio

French Navy - Richelieu

OK, so I want everything too...

How about Queen Elizabeth in her WW1 configuration? Or Derfflinger? Or Lion?

Ugh....

What can I say, you put one on your list that I didn't even think of. And I would pay BIG Bucks for a 1/350 ALASKA Class. So how about it Tamiya, Trumpeter, or any other manufacturer??? Can you do it???

The class I would vote for is apparently already in pre-production by Trumpeter: a Nimitz class carrier, and have somebody release an update kit for the new "stealth masts," just to make them up-to-date. I guess I'll just have to wait a couple more years.

I have been a modeler for over 40 years. My primary interest is aviation (1/48) with WWII North African Campaign armor (1/35) a close second; but, with the debut of the 1/350 USS Arizona last year, I became ship modeler.

The Arizona in 1/350 along with parts of the 1/350 Tamiya collection, almost completed my want list.

My inspiration comes from the sacrifices and contributions made by allied sailors and soldiers in World War II as well as the ability to show detail of the equipment that they fought with. For years I have had a mental list of the ships that were pivotal in WWII. That list is nearly complete.

The ones needed are the H.M.S Hood, K.M. Prinz Eugen, I.J.N. Akagi, Hiryu, Soryu, Kaga and Shokaku. These along with ones already in production in 1/350 scale would complete my list of WW II capitol ships.

I've always been partial to carriers, and the Trumpeter Hornet & Essex have just about sent me to modeler's heaven. Now I'd like to see an (injectection-molded ) Independence class light carrier, and a Bogue-class escort carrier.

While we're at it, how about a 1/350 Midway-class carrier, too?Big Smile [:D]

How about acage mast like California? I've heard some company is working on a South Dakota and North Carolina class. I'm perplexed why Tamiya never followed through in this scale. An Akagi and Nagato would have sold well. With Trumpeter popping out all the carriers, maybe it'll motivate some of the Japanese companies to pick up the ball and run with it.....oh lord where am I going to get all that shelf space?

Battleship: USS North Carolina
Destroyer: Farragut Class, particularly USS Aylwin...My father-in-law is a Pearl Harbor survivor, and was aboard the Aylwin at the time. Would love to build one for him.

I would like to see a Fletcher class destroyer in post WW2 trim, with tripod mast et al. Served aboard two of these "greyhounds". USS Hale DD642 and USS McGowan DD678 in the early '60s.

Would really prefer 1/700. Who's got room for 1/350 in a three and a half room appartment?Disapprove [V]

There are resin kits of some ships above, however there is one in plastic to be realeased soon by Trumpeter, the 1:350 USS NIMITZ aircraft carrier, like our friend demono69 has asked for.
To everybody else and myself lets keep waiting for good news.

I think Tamiya should continue the batleship collection with the Italian and French main battleships classes. However i really would prefer the Nagato or Mutsu battleships. I hope Trumpeter, Tamya , ICM or other can give us good news some day.

I'd like to see the USS Montana in 1/350 even if the actual battleship was never built. The idea of an lengthened Iowa class with four turrets seems like a good challenge.

For real ships, what about the French battleship Richelieu?

OK, let's revise that list:

U.S.: Montana, South Dakota, Idaho
France: Jean Bart, Strasbourg, Richelieu
Japan: Nagato, Fuso, Kirishima
Germany: Baden
Britain: Nelson, Royal Oak

These would REALLY be interesting to work on.

Panda, too, is releasing a series of 1/350 scale ships, including a Nimitz-class. I'm wondering if these won't be rebranded Trumpeter kits, especially the Nimitz, but I hope not.
