Enterprise's Flight Deck Seams

Mask off each side of the deck as close the seam as you can get...then putty. You might want to put a backing piece of plastic, a scab, to prevent seepage. I don't remember if the deck has those molded in or not.

Once that's done, fill carefully and wet sand. When it's done, remove the tape. You may have to replace the tape a few times to protect the surrounding deck area.

Thanks for the tip about putting tape down Jeff. I also heard that assembling the deck before placing it on the hull. Place it upside down on a long flat surface and add the styrene reinforcement helps minimize the amount of putty you use. Also would recommentd getting some of that liquid / extrafine stuff found in Mr. Finisher (I believe Great MOdels stocks it). I've only bilt the 350 scale Essex, but have an Enterprise and Hornet waiting and will probably get the Nimitz for Christmas.

I have just assembled the flight deck for the new 1:350 scale USS Nimitz model from Trumpeter upside down on a large flat surface and it joined up very well and need minimal filling.

I use Bondo's Glazing & spot Putty for all my models. I used it on my carrier and had little to sand. Taping the edges help protect the tie downs from getting ruined.
