I never had any problems with GMM,but did have some problems with Toms modelworks. Even if you have no expierence with photo-etch I think you should go with GMM. I agree with Jeff Herne on some items, like the price toms is a little more affordable. I myself have used all three makers and again like Jeff said you get what you pay for. In the end you really have to make the choice yourself and in time you probably will end up useing all three companys just like the rest of us. Well good luck!

I'm nearly finished with the same model and I'm using the GMM set. If you're modeling the 1982 refit, you're going to have a lot of extra parts left over in the GMM set. The only criticism I have is that they really cut the running foot of deck railing close. Not a lot of room for error when it comes to rail lengths. I may have to an extra fret of rails to fnish her out.

I would say that it depends on your modeling skills and budget.

If you're not really experience with PE, then avoid White Ensign. Their stuff is beautiful, very fragile, but not suited to those with big fingers or clumsy tendencies. It's also pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Gold Medal is delicate, and mid-range in price. Their sets lack alot of the really super detail stuff the WEM frets carry.

Tom's is best suited for those with a limited budget looking to improve the ship without going insane while doing it. His sets are affordable, and provide the basic stuff you need to detail the model.

That's my opinion, I use all three companies on everything I do, sometimes, multiple parts from different frets on the same ship.

Which photo-etch set/ brand for 1/350 tamiya

Have not started my 1/350 Tamiya New Jersey yet(looking for a house). I would however have everything ready to go when I start to build.
Which brand of photo-etch should I choose? Which set also. I saw a few sets that saw for Missouri and New Jersey (Iowa class) will that set work?
I am leaning toward Gold Metal or tom's.
Any help will be appriciated. Input welcome too.
I would prefer to do the latest version I could.
thanks
