dhenning - yes, a freind and I are planning to build one if we can compline enough material. probably at 1:72nd scale. since he collects in that scale. But personnaly, 1:35th would be my ideal.Big Smile [:D]

cool! I found my plans for the USS Guam on there... imagine that 1/192 RC... with a RC Sea Knight on the deck.... or maybe a CH-53 (gotta dream big like LemonJello said)

might order them to send to Trumpeter... the other place the ordering thing never worked...

I agree though, an LCAC would be cool either modeled (I can see the diorama possibilities) or RC would be even better!!!

I've kicked the idea around in my head of someday tackling this as a scratchbuild project in 1/35. Then I could put either an M-1 on board or better yet an MTVR and M198! Of course, I'd have to wait for someone to actually make kits of the MTVR and M198, but if you're going to dream, you might as well dream big.
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.

Textron no longer shows as many images of the LCAC construction.
They used to have all sorts of pictures at different stages of the build.
I believe they have all been pulled for homeland security, maybe they just decided it was time to update the web page and dropped all the bandwidth eating photos.
http://www.systems.textron.com/

I e-mailed and asked about the images, but got no reply.

However, I did pick up the blue prints offered by http://floatingdrydock.com/
Their G-LCAC set
USS LANDING CRAFT AIR CUSHION 1-60

on this page http://floatingdrydock.com/G.htm is an absolutely great set of plans, sections and profiles. I have this set just in case I need to build a radio controled 1/87 scale LCAC, and an accompanying LSD-36, or LPD San Antonio and radio controled M1 - abrahms

Here are my list of research bookmarks.

Norman Friedman's "US Amphibious Ships and Crafts" has 5 or 6 general photos of the LCAC and a discussion of the development-but not drawings or detail shots.

Photos in this reference state the builder is Textron Marine Systems, but in the wonderful world of defense contractor buying and selling-not sure what their name is now.

Any hope of a decent kit of one of these? Maybe 1/72 scale or so to go with some armor?
