Thanks to both of you for the replies. I've found a couple pics on the net and i the rigging appears to be a lot less complex than the GMM instruction shows.

Now if I kived in your neighborhood Jeff, I'd have alreadymade a ROADTRIP! with the digital camera. Thanks.

The single deck level boom on '83 New Jersey is quite simple. There's two lines basically, a lifting line, and a support line for the boom itself.

The end of the boom has a pulley, one end of the support line is anchored to the bulkhead, the other to a winch. The lifting line runs down the boom to a pulley, then down to a winch on the deck.

Do any of you fellow shipmates have a reference pic of the crane rigging on the port side of the New Jersey? I'm gettin' down to the nitty gritty and I'm a little dumbfounded as to the cabling and pulley arrangement. A pic or web site link wold be helpful.
