Are you looking for a specific kit, or will any kit of the carrier do?

Also, pls, lay of the caps it is considered rude to write all in caps as it is considered the equivalent as shouting on the Internet.
I think it is mentioned in the rules of forum that you agreed to when you signed up.

What class vessel was the Oriskany? Becasue odds are you can find the class vessel in model form and then simply change the hull/deck numbers and a few other slight things.

I believe either Monogram or Revell make a USS Oriskany in there 1/700 or smaller scale. The last LSH I was in, I believe they have one on their shelf. You may want to try either Squadron, Pacific Front Hobbies, or maybe The Great Model Store. Forgive me if some of these names are not exact. I do not have a FSM with me to put in. I am on lunch at work. But one of these can either tell you if their is a kit out there or if they have one.

PS - I know you are not suppose to use caps but I think it goes a little to far. I am a drafter and do everything in caps. People need to read and understand what you really mean but here the rules are established.

Oriskany is an odd bird...and there are no accurate kits of her available that are currently in production. Jim Shirley did a 1/700 resin kit that's now rare and expensive, but they do appear once in awhile.

Oriskany did not recieve the standard SC modernizations. Her angled flightdeck was the prototype for the rest ofthe class, but she retained her open bow and kept the 5"/38 twin mounts for and aft. Her island was also altered but not to the extent of the other ships in the class.

This is, of course, assuming you want a 1950-1970s vintage carrier. Your best bet will be to kitbash the Revell box scale angled deck Essex, and merge it with the WW2 era Lindbergh kit. Revell is 1/535, and Lindbergh is 1/525...the difference is negligible.

I'm in the process of starting an Oriskany in 1/350 scale by using some parts from the Trumpeter kit (they only make short hulls), lots of GMM, Toms and WEM accessories, and lots of sheet plastic, resin, and Bondo.

The Oriskany was the last of the Essex class carriers to be built. her contruction was cancelled at the end of the war, but was resumed and she was commissioned in 1950. She is known to be in a class all herself for she never had the WW2 Essex class island but was built with the current island design (known as SCB27A upgrade). She was a "long hull" class, which meant she was 16 feet longer than the "short hull" and had a redesigned CIC, Steerage, fire control, and Aircraft storage, in other words, the inside of the Oriskany was different than other Essex class carriers.
If you ever seen the movie "Bridges at Toko Ri", that is the Oriskany in her pre SCB125 form.

SCB125 is the modernization classification given to the Essex Class carriers that recieved the Hurricane Bow and Angle Flightdeck. The Oriskany received her modernization in 1959.

I mentioned this in another thread, that Revell made the Oriskany in 1/520 scale back in the 1960's. However, this is the same kit that they made as Wasp, Hornet, Essex, and Lexington, all short hull carriers and all had differences in communication and fire control systems. Oriskany spent most of her career as an CVA (Attack carrier), where the carriers depicted by Revell were CVWs (Anti submarine) and CVTs (Training).

Next in line was Aurora, and later Lindberg, who made a "toy scale" (about 1/600) Oriskany, and like Revell, made the Lexington, Essex, Bennington, and Shangi La.

Other than the very hard to find 1/700 resin kit by Jim Shirley Models, I do not know of a kit that accuratly depicts the Oriskany. Those who want to venture into building accuratly her are forced to do as I, and that is to research, and then do some kitbash/scratchbuilding.

I hope I didn't discourage you, if you do find one of the Revell kits, by all means, get it and build it. They are fun kits to start with.

Scott.
