Hi, I know that this is a little off base but, it ties in. The post from modelbob is dead on.There were many vessels that originally were either side or sternwheelers on the lakes.Some were then,(if in good condition)converted to screw steamers.One such that I remember fondly was the lake tour boat "CANADIANA" She plied a regular run between BUFFALO, N.Y.s passenger port to CRYSTAL BEACH,ONTARIO(home of the monstrous "comet"wooden coaster)She had originally been built as a sidewheeler and was converted.If you booked an overnite, your cabin was most likely in the old wheel sponson area.Larger than regular and on the main deck.She was a stately old boat that has always stayed in my fondest memories from a childhood on the shore of LAKE ERIE.I also remember the most famous ore freighter of all "EDMUND FITZGERALD" I have wanted to do the CANADIANA, but could not find any info on her.There is also a sternwheel steamer papermodel that is of a boat from the northwest.I sadly can,t remember her name. tankerbuilder P.S.
