I just pickedup the tamiya version of the yamato in 1:350th scale. I was just wondering what you all think of the model. It certainly looks amazing, Was it a good ship and is there any infomation on its battles it may have fought in? I was going to buy the bismarc but after comparing it to the yamato i feel it was no where as immpressive.

Thanks for any info.

It's a well crafted model, the results will be impressive and look to the most of the world like the Yamato.

But if you get critical, then it's accuracy leaves something to be desired.
1. The configuration depicted shows a selection of equipment and fittings that was never on the ship at the same time.
2. The row of triple 25mm AA turrets on both beam at midship are of the wrong type.
3. A deck house between the foremast and main bridge is missing
4. The contour of the superstructure behind the top row of 5" dual purpose guns are of wrong.
5. The hawser holes on the bow are set too low

Hey Armour_freek.....I recently read Russel Spurr's book about the Yamato called a Glorious Way to Die. It was an interesting read and did contain a few photos. It might be of some use to you as background info.

There is a guy on www.modelwarships.com that sell turned BRASS barrels for this kit, and many many other, even down to the 25mm guns. Go to the website, and look for Wal-Nutt productions. He's a regular guy just like you and me but he turns out the most fantastic barrles I have ever seen.
