Big E (Prize)
Posted by subfixer on Monday, December 6, 2004 8:53 AM
I am sure no body has noticed, but I've been gone from the forum for a while. It is good to be back and I know that I've missed a lot. But one thing I won't be missing is the CVN-65, I just spent three weeks on that "Prize" and I sure am glad to be off of it. If anyone has any questions about it, I'll do my best to answer them while the old woman (too old to be a girl anymore) is still fresh in my mind.

Easy now...
I spent a little time on the Prize. I believe the phrase is "they sure don't make em like that anymore"
I went from there to the Teddy R. I remember when my CO found out I was off the Enterprize he had a nice joke for me. "Chris, you should be right at home here. Since your coming from the old bat to the big stick....
Glad to see subfixer back. You in the yards I take it. NN or P-Town?

I am actually at the Naval Station in Norfolk. I work for the Navy Yard in Portsmouth (P-Town for the uninitiated) but we have this little outpost at the base where we perform work on the ships that are not actually undergoing overhauls or scheduled maintenance. It's a sweet little operation.
I was looking at an old damage control placard on one of the bulkheads on the Prize the other day. It identified the ship as a CVA (N). The sailors didn't know what the letters stood for so the salty old yardbird (me) had to break it down for them. I am getting old.
