This is very simular to a tool mentioned in the Jan "03" FineScale mag on how to heat Momofilament and stretched sprue!
These types of medical cauterizing tools can generate up to 1,200 degrees fahrenheit but you do not need that much so you just tap the on/off button to get the heat level you need.
This is very cool, easy to use and much cheaper than I expected! ...here is one that I have found....seems that fly fisherman use them for fine work.
