Hi, I'm doing a 1/700 Haegawa Essex Carrier and need a little information on the Eduard PE set and the color schemes.

The PE set seams to be an update of the original kit, or is this a back date? The Essex went for a refit in Apr. of 1944 and again in March 1945. So my question is, what period does the Hasegawa kit portray and what period does the PE set portray?

Also, I know that the color scheme between apr 44 and mar 45 was the measure 32 dazzle pattern and that after mar 45 it was measure 21. What was the original scheme when she first set out?

Once I've figured out what era the PE set is for and I know what scheme to use I then need to know what colors I should be using. I've found the paint chips on web sites but would like some directions on how best to go about it. I like to stick with acrylics and I am most familiar with Model Master and Gunze paints. Anyone out there with experience and ideas of what colors are a match and/or what mixes to use?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated! I've tried looking on modelwarhips .com and the web but I am becoming a little frustrated.

The Hasegawa Essex is a mish-mosh of different eras all dumped into one kit, so...pick your era...I would recommend doing a late-war, post '44 refit with the additional 40mm sponsons.

Her original color as commissioned was Measure 21, which she wore until April of 44. After that, Measure 32, which consisted of 5-L and Black, in a two tone scheme. Both of these colors are available from Model Masters in acrylic, or from White Ensign in enamels.

I strongly recommend visiting Steelnavy's Essex data tables to get your ship configured properly.
