DDG-993 Question...
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, December 19, 2004 12:11 PM
It seems to me that the Spruance Class destroyers have/had netting extending up from the main deck to the underside of the hanger deck. Anybody got a reference pics on this area of the Spruance ships? (area between aft sperstructure and deck)

I just happened to fing some photo etched chain link fence sections in my old N-scale junk box and it should work very well for detailing that area.

The only netting in the flight deck area is around the edge of the flight deck. It folds upward when not in use. www.navsource.org look in the destroyer section you'll find all the "Spru-cans" and Kidd class ships listed there with many good photo's. If you need more I could scan some and post (or e-mail) you.

Thanks for the links and info guys. The second link (extra thanks Dragonfire) has a detailed pic that captures the exact area in question. What I perceived as netting is really vertical supports for the helo hanger overhang.

My wife tells me that this is the most detailed ship I've gone. I don't agree but don't argue over praise, especially from your wife. I'm really at a stand still, I've done all the PE (GMM) except the main deck rails and the red warning ring around the bow missile launcher. That decal became a casualty of SOLVASET!!! Bad move on my part. I'm anxiously awaiting aftermarket decals from a source in Fla. but now their Alps printer is broken. For now she just sits in port awaiting final refit!
