Lloyd McCaffrey, world-renowned miniature carver, will talk about creating and collecting ship models. Since the early 1960s, McCaffrey has set new standards in the field, from developing new methods of miniature construction to perfecting the art of intricate detailed carving.
Dana Wegner, Curator of Models for the U.S. Navy, will discuss "U.S. Navy Ship Models." As three-dimensional documents, the U.S. Navy’s 1,900 models constitute one of the world’s largest and finest, but least known, maritime treasures.
Grant Walker of the U.S. Naval Academy will use a laparoscope to explore the interior of the Museum’s HMS Burford dockyard model while the audience views his progress on television monitors. We thank Lawrence and Memorial Hospital and Olympus Company for their assistance with this portion of the program.

The symposia are usually good value. The Patrick O'Brien event last year was outstanding. Mystic is just west of the Conn - RI border and is easily accessible by rail from Boston and NYC. Also an easy drive from Providence airport.
I have no affiliation with the Seaport aside from membership of many years. I keep my sailboat about a half-mile away!
