QM2 1:400 Scale model by Revell
Posted by Beau Mansfield on Thursday, December 23, 2004 12:16 PM
I have just bought the QM2 1:400 scale model by Revell

The detail is very good and the instructions are easy to read and follow.
Plenty of images.

The model is almost three feet long and if Gold Medal Models produce a photo etched set it should make into a fantastic model.

The decal are good but they also include the waterline detail, which I would advise not to use as the red they have used is not correct and they will probable crack over time.

It is a big model so space is a must!!

Where exactly did you purchase this kit? I am in the US and no one seems to stock it yet. Can you help?

Hi Awan,

The QM2 kit has just been released in Europe in the last week.
I got mine in England and I believe that Revell seriously under estimated the demand.

It has sold out of most of the hobby stores here already.

The price of the kit is about $70.00

I would imagin that it is already on ebay by now or it will turn up there very soon.

Is it possible to place some pics of the box-contents ?

I'm interested in this model, but I need some more convincing Big Smile [:D]

Hi Dan,

Below you will find the link to the Queen Mary 2 on the Revell Models site.
There are several images of the parts and the model being built which should give you a good idea of the quality.

I have seen one of the kits on ebay.

I can assure you that the model is made to a very good standard and the detail is good.

I have just started to cut out all the openings in the hull i.e. Windows, fairleads and portholes.
This is time consuming work, but worth doing to achieve a high quality finish to the model.
I am going to fit Ever Green Transparent sheet inside the hull, superstructure and bridge windows.

I am probably one of the most critical people building the model, as you may already know I was responsible for overseeing the fitting out of the passenger and crew cabins and all related areas on board the real ship during its construction in Saint Nazaire, France.

I have hundreds of photographs and lots of details of the ship that I put together during the construction.

You will enjoy building this kit, but it will take a lot of time to do well.

Beau.

I have just purchased the 1/400 Revell QM2, fantastic kit, the detail and the mouldings are crisp and flash free. I'm still building up my 1/400 Revell Titanic with Toms Modelworks PE frets. I thought that was a fairly big kit but the QM2 definitely puts it in the shade as regards size and detail.
Beau, how about putting together a build up review? giving us advice and any helpful tips and hints, I'm sure we would all look forward to that.
Regards
Rob

It's going for only $70 USD over there? it's 16,000 yen here! (about $160 USD)
