I built the GreekTriera last winter.I had no trouble with the construction at all.I built it in the waterline version. It has 114 oars you have to fiddle with but it wasn't too.I put in a false deck in the stern because it left a big hole below decks you could see. There are pictures of it at model warships.com under Rod Millard models.

Now some of Zvezda other kits like the Brigentine,Pourquoi Pas and Sirius are old Heller molds. But make into good models with alittle work.

Experience with Zvezda kits - any?

Hello:

Anyone any experience with "Zvezda" sailing ship kits?

A local hobby shop features some of them. Typically I do not kvetch on kit prices, though my salary as an employed PhD student is relatively modest and everyday a cigar costs money too.

But a man in front of a shelve full of kits must be in a same situation as a woman in front of a shelve full of clothes; with the exception that kits are more usefull.

I find the Zvezda prices fairly high. Okay, as I got it they have the sailing ropes included (my Pinta from Heller has none; however I have a lot of old ropes at my disposal from wooden sailing ship kits).

Zvezda must be from the East that is the reason why I was bit surpised about their prices.

Are they worth the money: I mean what value is in their kits?

PS: e.g. Zvezda kits at (a very rough rule of thumb in the lon run: 1$ equals 1 Euro); the following kit costs about $50:
