Academy Titanic

I agree, it can lok really good!I haven't tackled the gold stripe yet, I'm actually going to try and get some gold striping from a LHS I used to work at. It is designed for car models, but they have a strip that is thin enough to go on this model. I just have to wait til they get it in.

looks good duke, when I did mine I added a little brown to the red to get a little closer to what antifowling paint looks like.I dont know if thats what it had, but I thought it looked cool, so thats what I went with. I couldnt tell, but did you put the gold stripe between the whit and black on the hull? I did, that was a pain to mask and shoot with the airbrush. The end result was worth it though. I think I spent a good 75% of my time on the hull painting on that one little stripe. My wife also hand lettered the titanic on the bow (shes kinda into that stuff,almost as bad as I am :D). This ship looks really good if the little things are attended to.

Here are some more pics I tookof my further progress, such as it is. These pics show the hull and the first couple of decks put in. I also painted the lower hull red too:





The top deck in the second pic is only test fit, I haven't glued it in yet. I also clearcoated it with a coat of Future to protect the paint from smearing and/or staining. I'll put a coat of semi-gloss on it when I get done.

I should have more done on it in a couple of days. With all the rain falling here in Southern California, I'll have lots of time to do it. Besides, I might need it to sail to safety!

Yeah, mine was in two pieces. It goes together pretty well though. I'l try to have more pics up of my progress later.

One thing I noticed about that kit is the hull is in two pieces. The academy kit is one, which is alot better I think.

Okay, here they are! As you can see, I'm doing the Revell kit.

This first pic is of the hull. I got the black and white painted on it already, and will be putting it together:

I'm doing this strictly OOB so I just painted all the deck details.

my wife didnt paint her benches, she thought they looked best as the brass they came in. She made this cool little jig out of styrene to help her bend em up, that saved her so much time (kind of ingenious chick :)).

I can empathize with the wife about taking such a long time on the benches. It seemed like it took me that long just to get mine painted! Tell her she did great work; they look awesome!

This was a fun kit, the hull was in 1 piece, which made it alot easier. All the time on this was the PE stuff. I think it took my wife a month to build all those benches. Hope yours turns out well

Excellent work! I'm building one also for my brother as wll. I am building the Revell/Monogram kit. It's about half done, but then I'm building OOB too.

Keep up the great work! I'm sure the Father-in-law will love it.
