Need ideas for a Drydock!!

If you work at a submarine drydock (EBD?) I'm not sure we could add much to what you already know about them.

Have you thought about a floating drydock? I saw some photos of an Iowa BB in a floater once. The battlewagon didn't quite fit and the forward swinging catwalks didn't close completely. I always wanted to do that in 1/350. If I ever move into and abandoned supermarket to live..

You could build the sides with foam insulation and cover them with plaster for the basic structure. www.woodlandscenics.com has stuff for building up terrain for model RR that might just fit the bill.

Skywave makes a set sized for 1/700 Fletcher-class destroyers. You could use that as a guide and scratchbuild from there. I like Claymore's idea of the foam insulation; good starting point!

 Hi miller41! I do believe that I saw an article concerning a ship in a drydock in one of the ship publications. I am sorry that I can,t remember which book it was I believe it was about a U-BOAT in a drydock ! The dock was a fixed, in a shipyard type. There is a neat floater in S.F. that held the vessel responsible for the CAPE MOHICAN oil spill. She stuck out BOTH ends of the dock. It was at that time owned by BAY SHIP AND DRYDOCK CO. Maybe you can get some pics from them?? The reason I remember the dock was my oil spill cleanup vessel was able to almost scrape oil off the end of the drydock.Good luck!!   tankerbuilder
