I've got a special affinity for this model.
I built it several times "as is". then I build it modified to a Guppy II, Tench with North Atlantic sail and interior detail.
I also have an on going one of her as a Tench, Guppy IA with Portsmouth step sail. But that's on hold, until the 1:72 U-boat is finished.
One more thing. It's close enough to 'N' gauge that many parts in this scale are useful. Check you friendly, local Model Railroad shop.

thanks Mike,
the info definitely helps. I see this as one of those "and just one more thing here..." kind of projects. I actually like those myself. Anyway, I will be posting several items for review before too long.
Thanks again, Ma

The Revell model is a good choice. And, if he's building an "as built" version, have him check out Nautilus Models << Http://www.nautilusmodels.com/ >>. They have several different conning towers, and other stuff, avaiable, just for that model.

Thanks for the info. I went ahead and used that to also find a usable kit to "bash" into a Kraken. Greatmodels.com has one made by Revell.

1/170 rmx5228 USS Lionfish Class Submarine.
I passed your info on to my friend, he is grateful.
I may yet get him to join our ranks...Big Smile [:D]

The USS Kraken (SS-370) was a Balao Class, Perch Variant, diesel-electric submarine. She was built in Manitowoc, WI in 1944. and was commissioned in Sept of that year.
She was converted to Fleet Snorkel in 1959 and loaned to Spain later, that same year. [Admirante Garcia de los Reyes (S-31)] She was finally returned and, then, sold to Spain, in 1974.
More info, and pictures, can be found on the Navsource Submarine index.

Hey all,
I am looking for any and all info on the USS Kraken. It is a Balao class sub from the WW2 era. It was decommissioned in 1974 Black Eye [B)] I think. Anyhow, I have a friend that wants to do a model of this ship and I do not have much info as of yet. I ma not a sub-guy so I am relying on the help of all you folks. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
