Nobody mentioned it but January 30th was the 60th anniversary of the torpedoing of the Wilhelm Gustloff in the Baltic.6 times bigger than the Titanic losses with 9,343 people drowned. A memorial service was held here in Poland with some of the survivors attending.
I have wanted a model of this ship for ages but have only seen a resin 1/700th version at $100 !!!!!
Maybe Revell AG someday.I hope.

It is also worthy to mention, wrecks of Steuben and Goya have been located by the Polish Navy.
Many people died on Gustloff, but I am a little upset, when some of "pacifists" blaming captain Marinesko for torpedoing Gustloff, calling him “murderer” (as I observed in media). He did the same thing, which had been done previously by Julius Lemp (U-30) in September 1939. Germans just paid the bill for proclaiming “unlimited underwater war”. Gustloff left the Gdynia harbor (called by Germans Gotenhaven) escorted by warships and could be torpedoed according to the law. Apart from that, the students of the school of u-boote specialists from Gdynia were boarded on Gustloff. So, torpedoes launched by capt. Marinesko saved lives of the allied sailors.
Sometimes I can not get rid of a feeling, somebody tries to presents aggressors as the victims of WW2. I am sorry, Lolok, I know you and I am sure, you understand the difference, but a lot of people do not. The ww2 has a different face in France and different in Poland or Russia, where Germans burned villages, killing everybody, preparing “lebensraum”. I saw many info in newspapers and TV of bombarded Dresden, Hiroshima and almost nothing of &(#@$^ bandits from Luftwaffe bombarding London, shooting at unarmed civil citizens escaping from burning Warsaw in 1939, German “soldiers” turning my city into dust in 1944, when Warsaw Uprising failed. Is it ironic, that German’s loses became the symbols of the war victims?
All the best
