Edsall Class Destroyer Escort Kit
Posted by beav on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 8:35 PM
Hi, does anybody make a kit of this class of vessels? It does not matter which scale right at this moment. I just wanted a preliminary check. I will be looking for one on my own, but if anyone here knows off the top of their head please let me know thanks.
If you were wondering why this specific class-my Great Uncle was killed at sea aboard one, and I would like to give this to my aunt, to place in here cabin, along with some other things of his. Thanks for your help!

Skywave made a Cannon class DE. The primary difference being the Cannon class used a diesel electric drive and the Edsall class used a reduction geared diesel drive. Hull wise they were the same. Armament details will need research as to time and place.

For some details, go to:

For a photo of DE-319 at launch (no armament yet), go to:

To look at other DEs, go to:

Good Luck on your project.

Iron Shipwrights does a Buckley, an Evarts, and a Rudderow, and you can convert one of these with relatively little work. I will have to research which kit you should start with, as I don't have any of the necessary books here at present.

I'd like to do an Edsall, but in 1:200, or larger. But I'll have to modify her to 50s - 60s DER configuration. Of course that, too, would be a future project. Like the 1:72 Gato/Balao/Tench Guppy II.

i also am rather interested in an Edsall in the DER configuration- considering the Buckley / Cannon class are the closest matches in 1/700, what are the major modifications ( of course other than the weapons configuration and masts for the radars) that I may have to start on? thanks guys!

I don't know if you are still around or not, but I have reciently decided to build a model of the Leopold as I had a cousin lost on that ship.  If you are still active I would like to hear from you.
