An interesting use of surplus cannon

I was wondering if any of you good people know to what use that the US Navy put to their old Dahlgren guns after they were made obsolete. I know of about twenty ( About eight inch diameter muzzles, 24 pounders? ) that are partially buried and used as bollards on the sides of dry dock one and two at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia. (DD 1 is where the Merrimack was converted into the CSS Virginia) Pretty smart of the old guys.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.
