1/700 sailors

I am building a 1/700 diorama, however without the humans it looks odd. Are there any 1/700 little people over there or is it me the one who;s mad?

You are mad, for painting 1/700 little people, but Tom's Modelworks makes photoetched people.

You paint them with a brush, and the paint thickens the PE up to give it some substance.

You might want to check out the 1/700 figure sets from Edouard.  They're photo-etched metal, and pre-painted.  The paint job on the batch I have is excellent - though the paint isn't applied thickly enough to give the "three-dimensional" effect.

The best way to use these things in a diorama might be to restrict the angle from which the observer could look at it.  (I've seen it done - by putting the diorama in a box with a light inside and a "viewing window.")  If you were careful about which way the figures faced, you could minimize the "flat" effect.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

I'd say the same about the 1/350's. They look pretty paper doll. But it's worth a try to set up your view points, because a ship with no sailors is no ... oh stop it, Bill!!

Random thought- ship models with great sailors- your thoughts and sorry to hijack the thread but I'm not specifying scale.

Vikings on the Aurora model.

Sailors on the Revell Constitution. Especially the kneeling gunner.

Everyone on the Golden Hind.

Bradford on the Mayflower.

Your thoughts...

Bill

1/700 sailors......Did I hear someone whisper "tabletop electron microscopes", and "nanosculpt" tools? The next manufacturing challenge?, I want to see the whites of their eyes, and the raised details on their little brass buttons! In 1/700 scale I would stand 82.1387 thousandths of an inch tall!......proudly!Big Smile [:D] Big Smile [:D]

Lead me not into temptation ..................I can find it myself

thyamis - 1/700 people are a special kind of hell. Welcome to my underworld *laughs maniacally*

Seriously, though, if you're going to have a lot in your display, like more than a dozen or so, go the prepainted route from Eduards or you will go insane trying to paint all the little guys. I say this as I am pondering whether 50 figures is enough for my 1/700 Kimikawa Maru diorama, or if I need more ...
