For the RN stuff try the National Archives of Canada (RCN) at www.archives.ca. Also the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich, www.nmm.ac.uk.

I use www.navsource.org alot. They have every US Navy ship built (or planned) listed there. With info like size, stats, dates etc. They also have pictures of the ships from various time frames.

Most U.S. Navy ships have their own web site though info avaliable varys greatly.
Here are some sites I know of that have pics (of varios quality) and other info:
Federation of American Scientists has info on active and stricken vessels: www.fas.org/man
Naval Historical Society: www.history.navy.mil/
US Navy: http://www.navy.mil/
DANFS: http://www.hazegray.org/

Reference sites for WWII warships

Greetings and Salutations!

Normally I would do a web search myself, but I am a bit back-logged at the moment. I figured that perhaps some of you anchor heads (no offense!) might have some sites bookmarked that you could recommend to me.

I've already found a very few good ones by chance, but I am looking for sites with any combination of the following:

1) Fairly large and good quality images of any warships from the Second World War; Carriers, Battleships, Cruisers, Destroyers, Subs... anything, and any nationality.

2) Ships logs, official action reports and the like.

3) Orders of Battle, disposition of assets, etc.

4) Anecdotal stories

5) Colors and markings information, especially looking for info on USN & RN cans & Kriegsmarine U-boats.

6) Chronological timelines for battles, campaigns and/or the entire war on all fronts, including maps and such.

I realize that some of this is perhaps beyond the scope of this forum, after all it's a modeling site! But hopefully there are a few anchor heads out there who share my passion for the history of the subjects that we all model.

Thanks!
