Hun GREY for paint on Panda's 1/350 Arleigh Burke
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, March 5, 2005 11:07 AM
Dear shipmates,

Have a Panda 1/350th Arleigh Burke class waiting on the shelf and
was wondering if you could provide me with the best shades of grey for painting
the hull and deck areas of the ship. Any painting suggestions are welcome in
addition to any tips about building the model you may have.

Thanks

If you want accuracy, use our modern USN colors in our Colourcoats enamels, accurately matched to the appropriate FS colors:

M 03, Modern USN Haze Gray;
M 04, Modern USN Deck Gray; and,
M 06, Modern USN Antifouling Red.

We have no minimum order on paints, and we ship worldwide.

Cheers,
John Snyder

I have to say the Colourcoats enamels produce dead on outstanding results. Ive seen alot of models finished with them and they look very nice. I need to get off my patookus and order a few of them myself. When I get my Nimitz and Texas, you can bet I will.

So far I've built 2 Arleigh Burkes, the Churchill with Flt.2 and just finished the Arleith Burke Flt.1.

Tip 1: Go get aftermarket PE if you're doing that far. The stainless steel in the Flt.1 version is horrible. The Churchill wasn't nearly as bulky as the 1st Burke kit's PE.

Tip 2: If you have the Flt. 1 kit, get ready to buy aftermarket decals. The sheet in my kit was dried out and totally fell apart. I don't remember if there are any alternative decals on the sheet, but if there are I'd try one on a piece of scrap first. It will save a lot of anguish.

Tip 3: Get yourself s good seam filler. There are 4 areas on the Ftl.2 and 2 on the Flt. 1 where the hull and superstructure have pretty significant fit problems. Filling the seams really improve the overall build.

Above all else enjoy the kit! Even with it's detractions it's a fun build.

Thanks for the tips pathfinder.

I've noticed that Panda's decals are garbage...and I've read a similar reveiw about fit
problems...another atribute of Panda...

I asked the same question about a month ago...one of the replies that I thought was a good match was:

Haze Gray: FS 36270 (26270 for scale effect)
Deck Gray: FS 36008 (26176 for scale effect)

Hope this helps.
