Royal Navy WWII 4.7" Twin Mount
Posted by Vautour on Sunday, March 6, 2005 5:26 PM
Can anyone direct me to a good view of the 4.7" twin mount guns installations used by Royal Navy Destroyers during WWII. So far I have many front and side view but none from the rear that would tell how is is contructed.

This is my first ship, so be gentle.

You might try to get plans from Dean's Marine at

http://www.hmbc.nl/merk/deans.html

They offer 1/96 scale Tribal and Kelly models. I've never worked with them but seen photos of completed models.

I've looked through several sources and haven't found much more than the side/top/front views that you probably already have. In "Warship Profile 2, HMS Cossack / Tribal Class Destroyer" by David Lyon, there are three interior views (scale drawings) of the mounting, again top and side. This is the best detail reference I have found, with labels. Again, no aft, looking forward views. It is available ror ~$20-30 at http://addall.com in their used book section

There are isometric/perspective diagrams of the 4.7 inch mounts in two books by Peter Hodges ("Tribal Class Destroyers" and "Destroyer Weapons of World War 2") along with some decent photos... but nothing to scale from. Martin Brice's book "The Tribals" has a decent shot of the canvas weather tarps installed, "DW of WW2" also has a shot of the canvas rolled up.

Schoonerbumm, thank for the response. I have the 1/96 scale drawings but could not figure out how the guns are set up. I will look into the link you supplied.
