Brown Water Navy / Riverine Force Group Build potential interest.....
Posted by Tread on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 6:45 PM
Howdy All,

I'm obviously new here. But I've spent a significant amount of time on other Forums so hopefully that 'buys' me some legitimacy......Smile [:)]

Anyways....it always seems to be that the ' Warships' side of most general modeling Forums are a little 'lite' compared to other categories. I am trying to put together the idea of establishing a Brown Water Navy or Riverine Force Group Build and thought I'd run it by you fellas over here at Fine Scale........I don't suppose there'd be any interest from any of you talented buggers over here in something like this......would there?.........or, would there? Big Smile [:D]

If there indeed is.....PLEASE post your input on this idea, either pro or con?.......it would be greatly appreciated.

warmest regards,

Tread.

The Tamiya PBR Mk II counts as a "ship" around here even if it is 1/35 scale and close to being an armor subject. Watercraft are watercraft and the ship forum claims the rights to them. See our lawyers. Brown water or blue water, we are not "lite" around here.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

Lite???? You call 60,000 tons of steel mounting four 16" guns that can run at 30 mph lite?

Just messing with yaBig Smile [:D] And welcome.

We havn't had much success running GB because we tend to lallygag too much (ships take a while to build). There was a lot of talk about PBRs, SWIFTS, and PTs a few months ago (election time go figure). Maybe they might revive it.

I definitely want to build some brown water stuff! Let me give you a suggestion, though: There's never a time when a group build isn't appropriate, but you might consider having this group build coincide with the 40th anniversary of a significant Swiftee event, like the establishment of the patrol unit, the point at which they changed their mission and started going upriver, or the beginning of Operation Market Time (in my ignorance, I may have just named the same event twice! The good news is this will generate more interest and there will be no political stuff (not that I've seen any political hassles on this board) but the downside is that you'd be doing the build in'06-'08.

In anay event, if you have the build I'll get in on it, but only if it's quite late in the year or early next.
