Chebec??
Posted by Big Jake on Saturday, March 26, 2005 6:38 PM
To any member esp. John Tilley

I'm prepping the cannons for the model this evening, does anyone know if the tip openings of the cannons were painted something than black? Some countries painted the ends red/yellow or just about every color. What do you think?

Also, I noticed when I was reviewing the Les Wilkins book on "Building Ship Models", I noticed that he replaced the Chebec's gun carr. with what looks like the Revells Constitutions' units. I always wondered how he managed to rig the cannon tackle to those being as small as they were. You learn something every day!

Jake, I think you're on your own regarding the colors of the gun muzzles. I can only comment on British practice. I've seen contemporary British models with the ends of the tips red or black - and some with the whole muzzle, as far back as the first reinforce, painted red. I don't know how the French did it, but my guess is that there's enough room for doubt that you can safely do it however you think looks best.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

I figure a color that compliments or just leave'em black. It depends on what mode I'm in when I do the final painting.

Thanks
Jake
