World War I Battleships

Hi Mike,
If you like Battleships, you might also try to get your hands on Norman Friedman's book, "U.S. Battleships: An Illustrated Design History". It features just about every battleship-class the US has ever haid, mosty of them with excellent line drawings of both the top view and a side view. There are also lots of pictures, of real ships, study models etc. For some ships they have included a diagram of the engine rooms, and, best of all, they have an entire chapter about the cancelled Iowa class follow up, the Montana class!!! All in all, a wonderful reference book, very technical, but I'll never regret getting it. Actually, I've got many of Friedman's books now. Including Amphibious ships and craft; Destroyers; Cruisers; Aicraft Carriers, and, of course Battleships. When the revised edition of Cruisers and Aircraft Carriers will appear, I'll selll my old books, and get these for sure!! I still hope he wil also produce a book about Submarine tenders, and Sealift vessels.

I'm not really into Battleships. I started my Navy career on "Tincans", but gravitated to the Boats. On the Boats, we learned to look on BBs as large, juicy, luscious targets, to be sunk with unholy glee. Kind'a like super carriers.
I bought the book because I remembered, seeing, guys asking for info on WWI BB's, here. Since it wasn't, all, that expensive, I picked it up.
One neat thing is the, four fold, pull out, line drawings of the British battle cruiser AUSTRALIA, and the Austro-Hungarian dreadnought VIRIBUS UNITIS. Both are, about, 22 inches long. I kind'a hope nobody wanrs a copy, they'll be a bear to scan. But, if some one, really does, want a copy, I'll do it.

Actualy the old Australia was owned and manned by Australians and was a unit of the Royal Australian Navy.
Now I would like a set of lines for her but would rather purchase the book.
Any chance of it being on ebay or Amazon?

I believe you can find it on Amazon. But they want something like $40 for it. Check your local used book dealers first.

Ausrralia was an INDEFATIGABLE Class. There are two pages, on the class, with line drawing show diferences between the class, NEW ZEALAND and AUSTRALIA. If you need them, email me at mkeatingss@cox.net. But give me a couple of days to put them together. As I indicated, my scanner is just a hair too small for the pages, so I have to break them up and reassemble them once the're in the computer.

Try this site: http://www.abebooks.co.uk/ It's got that book for just 4 pounds or so. Granted, it isn't new anymore, but in good shape anyway.
I have ordered several books from here that were sold out elsewhere, and they were all excellent.

If you want the info, on the AUSSY, I've got it. It took most of the day, but all the info on the ship and the class is scanned in. They're, three, pretty large files, so I'll have to send them in three seperate mailings. Email me and I'll get them out.
