An in-box review of the new Dragon 1/700 U.S.S.
Essex has appeared on the Steel Navy website ( www.steelnavy.com ).
More than 500 parts. Full-length hangar deck. Photo-etched brass parts, including antennae, elevator support framework, radar screens, and 30 crew figures. F6F, SBD, and TBF aircraft molded in clear plastic, with countersunk detail and separate outer wing panels. Full set of decals, including aircraft insignia with and without the red outline, to represent the ship at different dates. And for those who want to show off the detail of the hangar deck - an alternative flight deck molded in clear plastic.
On the basis of the photos provided by Steel Navy, I could detect only two problems: the 20mm guns are a little over scale, and the countersunk tiedown holes in the flight deck are the wrong shape. Did I really write that?
Start getting your funds together, folks: the 1/700 bar has just been raised again.
