according to this info the king george v class had 1" thicker total deck armor than the south dakota class
south dakota class
16" - Side amidships
18" - Turrets
6" - Upper Deck
4" - Main Deck
Triple hull below w.l. and internal bulges.

My money is on Alabama, especially if it has the late-war targeting radar suite. They're matched pretty close in broadside weight with the main batteries, but the US guns have greater range and the ship is faster, so it can bleed the Brit earlier and stand back off the horizon. KGV has better armor, but those English ships had soft upper decks and plunging fire has long been their demise. That's three strikes for His Majesty and the Yank wins!

Acutally I was thinking WW2 KGV and Alabama, but what the heck! I love starting stuff! lol Q ship, you know my Old man and I built a 79 Merc Gran Marquis with a blown 500+ hp 351w ....I always wondered why in the heck he called it a Q ship. He was a trip, ya'll would have loved him.

Hey,why not!! My favorite" what if " scenario is US Navy
vs. Grand Fleet circa 1916-1918...British certainly held
a numeric advantage,but US BB design as far as armor
& hitting power was outstanding,I believe...Figure in the
distance between their respective bases to complicate
things & it gets interesting....California vs Queen Elizabeth
Texas vs.Iron Duke...& what about those fabulous
British Battlecruisers????
