Warped Cutty Sark parts
Posted by jallison on Monday, May 2, 2005 4:03 PM
Hello all. I'm returning to the hobby after a number of years and recently found this excellent forum. I'm getting started on building Revell's 1/96 Cutty Sark (the big one) that I found on eBay. The kit arrived and looks to be complete, near as I can tell. But some of the parts are warped. Most concerning are the deck pieces; the foremost deck piece has a distinct bow to it that doesn't look so good.

I figure I've got three options to deal with this:

* Just work with the pieces as-is and try my best to get it to look right;
* Find another kit on eBay or elsewhere and combine the part sets into one comprehensive one;
* Fix the parts

It's this third option I'm looking for help on. I figure I could gently heat the warped pieces and attempt to get them back into shape, but I worry that I'll make the problem worse. Has anyone had any experience with anything like this? Obviously I don't know what caused the warpage in the first place, but the kit is probably fairly old and may have spent a decade in someone's attic or garage. Any tips appreciated!

put it into fairly warm water for a few minutes so the plastic becomes pliable & won't crack or break when putting on the ship's hull

If all else fails and you need replacements parts contact Revell Models and they will send you the replacement parts.
They have a very good customer service.
Parts will take about a month to be delivered.

Nice subject.

I have visited the real ship.

Beau.
