I've already posted this on some other model ship boards, but i've been asked to keep people posted on the model. So, here it is.
Here are a few more modifications I've found necessary to use the YMW hull tops with the CMK Control Room.
First it was necessary to cut down the plate, at the outer edge of the control room overhead. And, it has to be cut at a descending angle (from fore to aft). Also the YMW hull top has to have a notch cut in the starboard side, for the length of the control room. It, too is not straight. It must be deeper at the forward end than at the after end. Not a lot, but noticeable. It is a good idea to taper is inboard from top to bottom, for a better match.
It will be necessary to file and fit, and finally sand and fit to get the correct match. Filler and paint should handle any minor errors.
I've also used the lower sections of the kit, scope wells with the Warhammer conning tower upgrade, the ModelBrass conning tower deck and Steve Nuttall's scopes. The scopes still can be positioned a various heights, but look a bunch better.
The attack scope is Nuttall's scope with a small section, of the kit scope (the locking cam), attached at the bottom.
The air search scope is Nuttall's scope with the kit locking cam, an extention and the CMK scope bottom.
So far, everything has worked out well. Since the scopes, and their wells, are all part of the conning tower assembly, everything just drops into place. All that's left is to punch out the lower conning tower hatch opening, in the hull top, insert a short trunk and attach the lower hatch.
I, also, have to cut out the hull side, but since I haven't worked up the courage, for that, yet, we won't go there.
It is, also, now obvious, that the hull tops won't go in until the two rooms are installed, the hullside opened and the two hull parts are glued together. But test fitting must be done continously.
Now. Back to finishing detailing the control room.
