Revell Germany 1/72 DgzRs Arkona?
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, May 8, 2005 2:32 PM
Kit# 05226 - Anyone get this kit?

Saw it advertised and was wondering if it was not bad or...

It's about 15" long when completed.

You have to watch the ads too. Some of them say "crew of 9" which could
mislead you to think there are 9 crew members included. But I don't think
there are. Looks like it's just the funny way RG worded the description on
their web site.

BTW, Revell Germany also has listed a 1/72 DgzRs "Hermann Marwede"
due out in September, 2005. This one is 25" long. Might wait for that one.

Approve [^] Just received the "Arkona." No crew provided(as you surmised), but any of the 1/72 U-Boat crew or the Revell Kriegsmarine crewmen (particularly in their foul-weather gear) should work. The "Arkona" really gives you 2 "ships" in one, in that there is a large rescue launch on board, which could serve as an interesting model on its own.

I haven't found any aftermarket accessories specific to the "Arkona," but some generic PE items from WEM or others might prove useful, although the model is already reasonably well-detailed.

The "Hermann Marwede" is a similar, but much larger, rescue vessel which has its own rescue launch on deck (like the "Arkona's"). Not yet available in N. America, the kit appears to be priced between $45-$50 USD by those mailorder shops listing it.

Mischief [:-,] If you selected an appropriate A/C or vessel and figures in 1/72 scale to be rescued you could have a grand diorama with both vessels and their launches deployed at the scene. Tongue [:P] Too bad most of the 1/72 ships are WWII vintage or relatively modern small warships. Boohoo [BH] Maybe A/C are the way to goConfused [%-)]. Zepplin?Propeller [8-]space capsule?Laugh [(-D]

Thanks!

Yeah, was thinking about a diorama.

BTW, Revell Germany also has a new set of 1/72 German Navy Figures
that is due out sometime this year also. 51 figures in a set. Kit# 02525.
They are designed for the U-Boat or other WWII boats but, like you say,
these could also be probably used too.
