USS Courtney?
Posted by woody0369 on Sunday, May 8, 2005 9:00 PM
Hi all

I don't get over to this area of the sight often, but I have really had a desire to build a ship (I'm an aircraft guy myself). Any way, I thought I would try and pick a subject of which I would have the most interest, and remembered that one of my favorite uncles served aboard the USS Courtney. So I asked lots of Q's and got lots of A's from him. I did some more digging on the net and found that the Courtney was a Dealey class vessel which served from 1955 through 1973.
Anyway my real question is Where on earth can I find a Dealey class Destroyer escort? I've checked my usual sources but they don't deal with ships a great deal. I really hope someone has a good source for finding this class or at least something that can be converted.

Thanks tons

Hi Woody,
The Dealy Class DEs were only 13 in number and I know of no model out there for this class. But I have a site you may find interesting where a scratch built model of this class was built by a former crewmember of a Dealey DE.
Most Dealys were stationed in Newport R.I. and this is their site www.newportdealeys.org/index

Actually, you're in luck. Commander's Series (Iron Shipwrights) has announced a USS Courtney in 1/350 resin. Kit number will be 4-174, and I have no other information about the kit. I would suggest dropping the folks at ISW an email and inquire.
