I don't know if it is the best matrial to use, but I have heard of some people using sand paper to simulate the decks non skid surface.

If you can find a grit that is acceptable in the scale you are working with ( maybe 400 or 600 grit) you could easily paint it the color you want....

Hope this helps

I did this by accident once with a DML flightdeck. I sprayed it with Krylon flat black laquer and it crazed the plastic. It made the best scale non-skid surface.

One thing to think about. SH-60B helos don't serve on aircraft carriers. They operate aboard destroyers, cruisers and frigates.

HH-60's and SH-60F variants operate with carrier air wings.

What ever surface you choose, I'd try to mark it as a destroyer deck, not a carrier one.

True Mike,
BUT, all aviators like to visit places, it would not be wrong to have an SH60B on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. . .just stopping by to get a free meal. . .say hello to friends. . .bring the CO of said destroyer, cruiser, frigate to see the Admiral. . .the got lost. . .while serving as plane guard they picked up an aviator from the carrier wing and deposited him at home. . .

I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it.

I agree...a destroyer or cruiser deck would make a better diorama. Th carrier deck in the helo area would be pretty devoid of markings, but on a DDG or CG you could paint stripes and tie downs.
