Does anyone have plans for a ship group build ?

I have to build a Z Class destroyer by September, so I was wondering whether there is a GB planned that I can participate in ?
Thanks

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

I second that emotion ... I'm kitbashing a modernized New Jersey into a modernized Montana.

Well, for a group build, we should probably come up with a theme of some sort. The basics would be 700th scale, 350th scale, or a kit from a specific nation (IJN Group Build) or a specific class (Essex Class Group Build), etc.

Once we can agree on a theme, then we start signing people on.

How about "Heavy Metal Floaty Thingie" ? Laugh [(-D]

Kinda general yet to the point. Since we are all building something that is made of steel, floats, and is capable blowing something up.

A couple of us Bismark builders have kinda a support group going. I guess thats the closest to a group build that I know of. A few of us are also doing ships in the Pearl Harbor build slated to start in August.

Anyone looking at doing any of the new Essex class kits by Trumpeter or Dragon? I want to get the Randolph when it comes out. Or how about the North Carolina? Lexington? How about it? A lot of new kits comming out, what say we get together and start a build?

Scott,

Have seen the Dragon Essex and Randolph first-hand, they appear to be sweet kits. Lots of included PE, everything except rails basically, but those are easily available.

I have an idea for a group build: 1/200 scale scratchbuilt IJN Cruisers!!! :-)

Based on what's posted here, what about a WWII naval combatant theme ... or is that too general?

I have seen the Essex first hand two weeks ago and I'm tossing in my sleep about the Randolph. The Long Hull design was really needed in both 1/700 and hopefully will come out in 1/350. The Randolph kit will make doing a conversion to the Oriskany pre-SCB125, much, easier.Big Smile [:D]

Randolph is pretty much the same as the Essex, aside from the obvious differences between short and long hulls. The quality looks to be very good. I might have to build one for myself. I've always had a soft spot for Bon Homme Richard.

The Cold War GB is still open too ships of the Cold War Period. The Only criteria is it had to have been in service or launched during the time of the Cold War. And it needs to have been used by one of the NATO or Warsaw Pact Countries.

So my modernized Nuclear-powered Montana never-was kitbash would qualify, right?

I wish the much fabled release of the USS Texas BB-35 would come about... I would build that in a second.. or a larger than 1/700 USS Guam LPH-9 or USS Austin LPD-4 would be nice too! Until then I will watch you guys! I have to say the Oriskany thing has a ring to it but don't think my skills would be up to it...

What about something really general like "Naval vessels of the 20th Century". That would cater for almost everyone. Maybe it could run from now until year's end, with the only criteria being that the model must be completed in this timeframe and must be of a subject that at least saw part of the 20th century.
Any feedback ?
Only thing is, I'm a very occasional ship modeller, at best, so I wouldn't really want to run the GB, does anyone else want to do it?
Cheers

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

I'll make the graphic ... but I've never even been in a GB, so I doubt I should take the helm. Jeff ... how can I get the graphic to you ... I'm a professional illustrator. Just let me know what the verbs need to be and I'll doll it up in Photoshop. I have a nice painting of Mighty Mo I did that I'd love to use ....
