aircraft carriers
Posted by DURR on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 10:20 AM
i am builder 3 aircraft carrier by revell the old 1/542 scale not very accurate
but sometimes accuracy is not the last word in modeling either
they of course don't come with enough aircraft
after scaling out the ones that come with it they scale between 1/518 and 1/566 anyway does anyone know if any one makes aircraft in the 1-500-
-1-600 range thanks

I don't think any company produce 1/500-1/600 scale aircrafts and sell them as separate box (apart from selling with the Carrier). You'll have more luck if you build 1/350 Carrier, like this Kuznetzov 1/350 from Trumpeter - you can buy Su-27K Flanker D 1/350 separately from the same company. And ofcourse, 1/350 planes have more details than smaller scale ones.

If you're viewing using 14" or bigger screen, the Su-27s you see will be bigger than real life, but they still look real. Wink [;)]

Very good info there Model Maniac. However, speaking as one who also already has some carriers in the above-mentioned scale, I would like to know if any smaller aftermarket company makes any resin aircraft sets for the 1/500-1/600 scale range of carriers, much like the photo-etch sets that some companies make to detail out these kits. If there are no companies that make these spare aircraft, that may be something those aftermarket companies should consider doing. After all, once someone has a carrier fopr so long, after awhile some aircraft could come off the carrier and get lost over time. It would be nice to be able to replenish the stock, as well as even add planes that the original kits left off.

I also think that DURR is also looking for any aftermarket comany offerings that may be out there for planes in the above-mentioned scale range. I hope someone can help.

I just came across a thread on "who would buy 540th resin planes" at :
http://www.shipmodels.info/mwphpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2631&sid=ec4ea1eac0e3b4a24c413437afb36d21

Hope that helps both of you...

DURR, thanks for your e-mail to me, BTW.
