Ahoy,

My Battle-class destroyer on my bench is HMS Agincourt of the 1943 class as a fleet radar picket, in 1/600. I modified the hull from Airfix's HMS Daring. Almost everything above the hull will be scratch-built.

E-mail about this class allows for many puns. Another FSM correspondent converted an Airfix Tribal kit to one and used "Tribal Battle" as a subject line. And of course, "Battle ships."

The Battle class comprised two groups with different fits: 1942 Battles (4-inch gun amidships, RN DCT Mk 6) and 1943 Battles (single 4.5-inch gun amidships, USN director Mk 37).

The 1942 Battles as built mounted RN radar types 291, 293, 275 (on the DCT), and small sets on STAAG and Hazemeyer 40mm gun mounts. During typical service type 291 was deleted, type 974 was added, and type 293 was upgraded to type 293Q.

Photos of many of these destroyers are at http://www.navyphotos.co.uk/index12.htm.

Cheers,
Mike

Hey all,
Thanks for the replies all.
Jeff the Novo kit is very average and showing a lot of age, badly. I just ran across it at the IPMS comps this weekend in Melbourne and had to have it.
Dai, I’m building it as Dutchy Holland’s ship HMAS Jackal as I too am a fan (I have almost 400 J.E. MacDonnell books!) I was looking for something larger but I’m not into building ships and this will be my first one. Most of my builds are car and some aircraft.
I have to thank my brother in law for this, he posts on here as ‘Death’ he found it and kept reminding me of it, damn pussers!!
I have looked into White Ensign Models for a generic set of RN pre 50s etched brass rail set (WEM PE 3505) and a ladders and walkways set as well (WEM PE 3510). This build will never see a competition table as my skills in this department are somewhat lacking and.........well I just want one for me!!
There are some things on this particular build that I’m a little lost on. For one I cant find what type of radar these ships had (Its the late WWII British version) I have found some on the post war Aussy two however they differ somewhat.
I would like an etched radar set as the one in the kit is grossly over scale, frighteningly over scale really. Also does anyone do a hedgehog anti submarine mortar in this scale??
Apart from that I don’t think there is much more I’m after (Although I guess this is enough)
Dai I will e-mail you about the reference you have.
Cheers,
Doc.

Hi Docwatson,
I have a set of plans for HMS CADIZ that was going to be made as HMAS JACKAL (My wife is a fan of Dutchey Holland et al) that you can have. They are to 1/96 scale but they should be of some use.
My email address is daimargs@optusnet.com.au

A 1/325 Battle Class destroyer from Novo? I've never heard of this kit, what's it like?

Ther are several very good books out from the UK ... Destroyers - An Illustrated history by Anthony Preston and Navies of WWII, also by Preston. Another good one is The History of the World's Warships by Christopher Chant. I know you're not part of the UK, but I think you'll have to cast a net their way for the really detailed stuff since it's their tin bucket. And, as always ... there's the internet.
Just up the Sound from where I live is Gold Medal Models on Lopez Island, Washington. They are the premier source for photo-etch brass and I think 1/350 is close enough to buy railing sets and a few other items. Will you be joining our destroyer build group or did you already do that?
Life is tough. Then you die.

Can anyone help me??
I need as much info on the WWII Battle class destroyer.
I have the Novo 1/325 scale kit and want to do as much to it as I can.
In particular I need info on the RADAR system used on them and if a 1/350 scale etched brass set is available?
Thanks in advance,
Doc.
