Me and the misses had a great 6 day trip. Got to see 95% of all the main sites. Felt one small quake and heard on the news about 3 larger ones as I'm sure you have heard of them also. The Maritime Museum and waterfront is damn near a dream come true for a ship modeler like me. The Balclutha (sp) is in great condition for her age. 2 vessels were under repair while were were there and we could not go on them. The Maritime Store they have is stocked with just about everything you could want, I dropped a decent amount of change in there. Picked up a great poster of "I told you so!" Here is a link to see it.

The one thing we noticed was the amount of pan handlers and homeless sleeping everywhere. The SF City Council passed a set of rules that the Police CANNOT harrass the homeless and panhandlers, unless they are mugging or bothering someone. They are allowed to sleep anywhere We had 3 people we saw every day in front the Ramada Inn Plaza on Market St. Amazing!

glad you enjoyed the bay area Jake. did you get a chance to visit the USS Hornet over in Alameda? that's an interesting tour. if I remember, a modelling club meets on the Hornet once a month. there is a room with a display case on the Hornet with several airplane models.

yes, unfortunately there is a homeless problem in downtown SF. more so than other large cities I've seen.

Last I have heard, the Hornet might be homeless.

I love SanFran, it is my favorite place in California. It was also the place where I was mugged. Kinda funny, a pretty young girl comes up to me, pulls a .380 into my side, takes my wallet, and walks off. I go into a tavern, and the bartender, who saw the whole thing, calls the police and gives be a beer to calm my nerve.

Two meter maids come to take my statement. Since it wasn't a homocide, it wasn't worth sending a uniformed officer. It was 9 am and I was the 15th mugging that morning in the four blocks that border China Town. The meter readers said all the muggings were due to the price of Crack going up.

Fortunatly, all she got was $80 and my Drivers License which didn't have my SSN nor a current address. I had my credit card in my shoe and I still had my military ID in my breast pocket. All those lectures the Navy gives about being prepared while traveling in a foreign area made a lot of sense that moring.
