Heard that the Charles deGaulle had serious reactor problems and is not up to prime time. The Brits indicated that they would build their carrier in a French shipyard - how sad for British naval shipbuilding!

The French are going to build a unit of the British CVF program.

The Charles De Gualle solved it reactor problems by 1999. She has had sucessful deployments starting in 2000. The problems that the French builders had are understandable since they had not built a carrier since the early sixties.

Chasing the ultimate build.

Not to be a wise guy but why would France build an aircraft carrier?????
A better question is why would Great Britian help? LOL Wow a Citeron with Lucas electrics good golly ..
I hear rumor it's to be named "Le Pollo de Mear" or in Englais The Chicken of the Sea.
I just couldn't resist the temptation.
Tongue in cheek... of course

FYI
The company that won the contract to build the new British carrires is caled Thales. They are a French owned company, (hence the confusion).

The French and British are colaborating on the CVF program to reduce cost by increasing the amount of production of the carrier.
